Basically they were letting him have Fridays off so they could use him as a scapegoat for the fraud they were committing ...it never occurred to them that he would be able to prove it. He didn't just go to a bar or lay around the house, he took "one day vacays" and had the receipts to prove it.

Hal was also Salaried made 3 times what loise did and gave her almost all his money. And being Salaried overtime and double shifts meant nothing to him. Hal wouldn't have seen an extra cent working on Friday.
