Is the all-new Chinese Audi E7X better than the German Audi Q8? Get 20% off Car Vertical using code Carwow: https://www.carvertical.com/carwow Mat’s got his hands on the all-new Audi E7X. However, this is no ordinary Audi! It’s been built exclusively for the Chinese market, so we won’t see it on sale in the UK, Europe or the USA! But why is that? Audi is well aware that those looking to purchase a car in China are much more likely to buy something that is home-grown, rather than a German export. As a result, the E7X is a joint venture between Audi and SAIC, with Audi’s traditional four-ring logo dropped in favour of capitalised AUDI lettering instead. The question is, what else has changed? Let’s take a closer look… Starting with the design, although the size is relatively similar to an Audi Q8, there is almost nothing else that distinguishes it as an Audi. Whereas all German manufacturers' cars will follow some of the same design cues, if you were to remove the AUDI badging from the front and rear, you’d be hard-pressed to know what the brand was! Still, up front it looks modern and futuristic, with thin headlights and a wraparound loop design that features Matrix LED lights. Along the side, the similarity to the Q8 is more noticeable, although the surfaces of the panels are smooth (similar to an iX3), and around the back the design is relatively clean and similar in look & feel to the front end. Step inside, and it’s a similar story to the exterior - the design is totally different to what you would find in a German-built Audi. The main feature you’ll notice is a long screen that stretches across the entire dash, with a passenger screen also built into it. The infotainment system is relatively fast and easy to use, but thankfully, the climate controls are adjusted separately with physical buttons! Elsewhere, the cabin is covered in soft-touch materials, including an Alcantara-effect roof lining, and the seats are incredibly comfortable. For those in the back, there’s also a huge amount of space, with reclinable seats, leg rests, and a 27-inch retractable screen! There are also large, sturdy tables built into the back of each of the front seats. The Audi E7X comes with two motors that combine to produce 680hp and 800Nm. So it’s no slouch, but then again, being electric, it tips the scales at a hefty 2,600kg. It comes with a 100kWh battery, which is good for a claimed range of around 400 miles. The E7X is on sale in China at an incredibly low price, starting from just £36,360! That’s less than half the price of a similar-sized Audi Q8 from Germany. The question is, if this car were on sale in the UK, would you choose it over a Q8? Let us know in the comments! 680 hp, 800 Nm, 400 miles of range and half the price of a Q8. Suddenly “made exclusively for China” sounds less like a strategy and more like Europe being protected from an existential crisis.
So Audi can make screens without huge bezels!
China getting the premium models while Europe gets the pleb models
That price difference is outrageous!
£36k vs £80k makes you understand why Audi had to rethink its strategy in China! 💸
You know China have gone clear when European car makers need to start launching sub-brands just to compete over there. 🤣
£36,000 is absolutely shocking! We are royally being bent over in Europe
Europe has surrendered without a shot fired
£36k for that car, it’s insane how ripped out we are in Europe by these brands
Need China to build houses in the uk
the sunroof takes longer to dim because it's electrochromic and actually blocks light, heat etc. the ones that take just a second to dim are PDLCs that don't perform nearly as well.
In this test, it would have been great to see the Q8 e-tron compared to this Chinese version of Audi.
China living in the future bruh.
It is not banned from Europe. Audi decided to launch it only in China.
Even the Chinese are teachin the Europeans how to build their own cars 🤦🏻♂️😂😂😂
We're not allowed it because all those countries are scared of competition.
For everyone confused, this is not the Audi we know, its a separate, China-exclusive EV sub-brand. That said, its ridicilous honestley
2:10 Who would have thought that a car with 400 more horsepower is actually faster... 😊
I have a 2021 Audi S4 made in Germany. Unless you always drive on perfectly smooth roads, the interior will produce various rattling noises. Although they're not loud, they're extremely annoying.
Aight im moving to China now. Europe's getting nerfed too much
