If I'm not mistaken, the majority of the dogs given to the cheetahs are of the golden retriever or lab variety because of the high energy and happy personalities as well as relative size of the cheetah when both are full grown
Fun Fact: Cheetahs are not the smallest of the Big Cat order, they're closer to the biggest of the Small Cats (where house cats fall in). They're just big babies. Don't, like, hang out with wild animals ofc, but big babiiiiies :3 *Edit:* Why is there one dude in my comments fighting literally everyone on what a "Big Cat" is, life ain't this serious.
In short: cheetahs have crippling anxiety and need their emotional support golden retriever to socialize. Now I wanna a comic of a chad golden retriever helping an awkward cheetah to get laid.
If I remember correctly from another post, they play off of their pack mates’ emotions, so one nervous cheetah becomes a cheetah pack doom spiral. So now, instead, one nervous cheetah looks to its pack mate, RE: perpetually unbothered sweet baby puppy, and stops being nervous.
The reason the dogs help is because the cheetahs empatheticly que from others in the group which usually goes into a nervous wreck feedback loop but if you put a big excitable yellow thing of fur that loves everything that feedback loop stops the moment any of the cheetahs look at the golden retriever and que that everything is fine actually and calm down
Ok, horses and cheetahs. What is it about fast that gives mammals anxiety disorders?
Long story short, Cheetas should be domesticated before they go extinct, they are asking for it.
I genuinely think a house cat as more thoughts about killing humans than a cheetah lol
also cheetahs are just big housecats
I love humans solutions sometimes. This literally would not be possible if we didn't domesticate dogs thousands of years ago, and now we're spreading the love of them to cheetahs! It's just so freaking sweet ❤
The reason cheetahs are so chill is that every other big cat kicks their ass on the regular so they don't want smoke with ANYONE who isn't prey.
Another fun fact. Cheetahs, aren't Big Cats
The best description I've ever heard I got 2nd hand. Someone said their safari guide called cheetahs weird dog like cat things and hyenas weird cat like dog things.
Cheetahs are the friendliest animals out there. I went to a wildlife reserve in Namibia and they literally had one that just milled about, it was a rescue from an illegal exotic pet owner, and it would just lay on you and purr like a car engine. Only warning they ever gave us was to not let it lick the inside of your hand cause its tongue could strip the skin off
Cheetahs are the fastest land animal. meaning they're super specialised. They're light weight glass cannons assassins, they can't fight off scavengers like lions or climb trees with prey like leopards. They eat as much as they can as they can and book it if anything comes to try and take it. With so much focus on speed, they have high metabolisms and an injury like a broken leg can leave them to starve, so they can't risk starting fights with the weird bipeds that could do who knows what?
Fun fact: Cheetahs and Puma/cougars/mountain lions aren't big cats as the term refers to members of the panthera genus like panthera Leo, panthera Tigris, panthera Onca, panthera Uncia, Panthera Pardis these are the only big cats (not counting subspecies and the extinct ones) and in fact they're also all panthers so a lion with melanism would be called a black panther
So they have golden retriever wingmans that make sure all the vibes are chill before mating 😂
Of all the possible predators I’d want to be around, it’s gotta be the cheetah. They don’t even roar, they physically can’t. They MEOW like HOUSECATS. 😭😭
Also fun fact, cheetahs are not considered big cats like lions and tigers. The thing that distinguishes a feline species from just a large cat to "big cat" is a special bone/organ in their neck that allows them to roar, cheetahs famously do not roar and instead are heard chirping like a bird. Another fun fact, the name of the genus for big cats is panthera, which means all big cats are considered panthers. Lions? Panthers. Tigers? Panthers. Jaguars? Panthers. And the black panther is just a jaguar with a mutation similar to albinism that causes extra melanin in the fur, and if this occurs in other big cats they too could be called "black panthers"
The biggest thing with the dogs is that afaik cheetahs don't live in huge groups. Which means because they're so nervous they'll just get more and more nervous cause they have no reference for what's Ok and Good. But dogs are pretty much always chill so that gives the cheetah something to look at like "Dog Friend is relaxed... maybe nothing is Bad, so I will relax!".
