Once, I got mistaken for a burglar on my way home, the police asked me for my id, I showed them and told them I was just running and that my home was 2 blocks from where I was. They realized I was being truthful and asked me if I saw a guy running closeby, I did saw some guy running a street down from where I was and pointed that out, they apologized FOR ASKING and move onto catching the right guy a couple streets away. I never felt unsafe and they asked me nicely after they heard me being super chill. of course I was in Mexico, here police feel like citizens too.
