Pure neglect. That's what this 2006 E61 530i had to endure throughout its life. The mission now is to restore the performance and smoothness of the 3L N52 inline-six engine. Friendly warning, though: this episode is engine-technical heavy. It's just not the same when the video doesn't start out with: "Caaaaming up"
Being a neglected BMW and bought by Sreten, probably feels like an angel being sent down from car heaven.
Starting without "Caaaaming up" is like a Top Gear episode without "Tonight..."
Man bored Man sees new M539 video Man happy
"This might seem intimidating but it's actually pretty easy" Says the man who rebuilt an ultra rare rear-steering BMW on a different continent in a couple of weeks :D
That poor vacuum cleaner. Maybe we need an episode where we see it cleaned and renovated.
The only Youtube channel where I can watch long videos without skipping or getting bored.
Here in Brazil, we have a saying: nothing is more expensive than a cheap BMW.
Love it when Sreten shouts the German markings EINLAẞ! AUSLAẞ!
Despite all your changes, upgrades workshop moves, new tools and endless leaking neglected BMWs - your little 12v Bosch LED worklamp HAS survived. That little lamp deserves some love and respect for surviving.
Two years ago I bought a non running 523i with also the N52, and I had to replace the cylinder head because the intake camshaft bearing of cylinder 6 failed due to oil starvation (caused by a broken oil filter housing cap). Watching you doing it is like a deja vu. But mine had 240k kilometers and the clock, and it was even more sludged up than yours, it was insane. Even though it was religiously had it's oil change every 25k km. And everything had to be cleaned of course. The previous owner thought he did good maintenance because he followed the BMWs service interval, but it couldn't be further from the truth. Imagine what a lot of these engine could have been if the oil service interval was between 10k and 15k kilometers instead of 25k.
It's just not the same when the video doesn't start out with: "Caaaaming up" ......
Love the sarcasm. I found this channel because of the compressor rebuild.
When daily car turns up to be a project car it is time to have a another daily car
Yes! And back to the Dojo we go!
Every time I watch one of your videos I get motivated to work on my BMW, but then I sit down for 5 minutes and it goes away. You make it look so easy. True sign of an experienced professional.
1:00:36 - ah the sound every E60 owner loves to hear... *bong* 🙂
I officially declare N52 being one of toughest BMW modern engines. I recently inspected 335,000 km engine that I know was abused and cylinder walls were perfect!
I love your attention to detail and determination to doing things the right way. Regarding the N52 engine, I think I'll echo something I heard the other day: engine starts with letter "M" = machen! (do it!), engine starts with letter "N" = NEIN! While it is genuinely a fantastically engineered powerplant, the amount of specialty tools and extra hardware (=bolts etc.) needed probably push the cost of ownership a lot, especially now that the engines are getting older & needing more service. So I'll probably stick with my M54 😅. Still, fantastic video, looking forward to the next one!
A BMW with oil leaks? Impossible. BMWs never leak oil!
