It happened on a Qatar Airways flight from Melbourne to Doha in February 2025. Australian couple Mitchell Ring and Jennifer Colin were sitting in a four-seat row when a woman collapsed in the aisle and died. The crew attempted to move her toward business class, but according to Ring, she was too large to maneuver through the aisle. They then placed her, covered with blankets, in Ring’s former seat. Ring says he remained beside her for roughly four hours, despite seeing other empty seats. Did they sue? Apparently not. As of August 20, 2026, I can find no publicly reported lawsuit filed by Ring or Colin against Qatar Airways, nor a reported court judgment or settlement arising from this incident. Searches under both passengers’ names and Qatar Airways continue to lead back to the original news coverage rather than litigation. What did happen afterward is interesting. Qatar conducted an internal review and publicly defended its crew, saying they had acted according to training and industry practice. Qatar also contradicted part of the couple’s story, saying passengers were accommodated in other seats and that a crew member remained with the deceased passenger. The airline said it had offered support and compensation to passengers directly affected, although it did not publicly disclose the amount or specifically confirm what Ring and Colin accepted. Jennifer actually did eventually get away from the body, but reportedly because another passenger offered her an empty seat, rather than because the crew relocated her. Mitchell remained beside the body. A February 2026 update on the story still discusses Qatar’s internal investigation and defense of the crew but makes no mention of Ring or Colin filing suit, which is another fairly strong indication that the situation ended through complaints/compensation rather than a public court case.
