Cows thrive on fermented hay. That's what silage is. It would kill a horse, but a horse doesn't have five stomachs. Cattle are ungulates with an extremely efficient digestive system. Horse are inefficient hind gut herbivores. Most of what they eat passes through undigested.

Cattle standing in manure and muck all day is recipe for disaster.....health wise and where only the strong feed....Hey Mr Farmer spread the hay out in a row out in the field .....no muck and a healthier animals where all animals can eat their share.

Double stacking your bales takes half the space. Put the first layer of bales on end. Then the second bale on top in normal position. The bottom bale won't absorb much water, and the top bales will dry better and quicker after rain.
