During Apple's 2017 iPhone X launch, the company introduced Face ID, a feature expected to revolutionize smartphone security. But when Apple executive Craig Federighi tried to unlock the iPhone live on stage, it didn't recognize his face, creating one of the most unforgettable moments in tech history. The issue wasn't actually a failure of Face ID. Before the presentation, several Apple employees had already handled the device backstage, triggering its security system. After multiple unsuccessful scans, the iPhone automatically required the passcode before Face ID could be used again. A backup phone was then used, and the demonstration continued without any problems. Although the moment quickly went viral and sparked criticism online, Face ID proved to be highly reliable and is now used by millions of people worldwide. It remains a reminder that even the biggest tech companies can face unexpected challenges during live product launches.

The reason this happened is that someone restarted one of the phones before they were placed on stage. Forcing a PIN code in order to unlock it. Which is intended. It was not a bug; it was a lack of understanding of their own new feature.
He should’ve said something slick like “and this is a great example of our security measures”
I got my first iPhone after 15 years of android and I was shocked there was no fingerprint scanner. I’m genuinely enjoying it though.
This is actually safer, blocking face id after a reboot is classic security in operating system internals , the master pin is used to decrypt the secondary pin to decrypt everything else keeping your data safe, but really every other phone does this
Don’t worry whatever billions they lost they found soon after
I still miss the fingerprint scanner to this day. And clicking it to go to Home Screen was peak. Why did we do this?
It disable when it detects unfamiliar face
The fingerprint scanner was way better.
I’ve like all the iPhones. I literally could still be using my 5 if they didn’t mess with the function 10 years later and make them extremely slow
Mate no they didn’t lose billions in seconds
Apple hasnt lost nothing becuase stupid people will buy there new iphone with 3-4 different models at insane prices 🤣🤣🤣🤣
It’s classic block after reboot or restart or just long press to power off or just get to the power off screen and you’ll need the passcode to unlock.
Music name??????
That's how mine works almost any time I pick it up
Bro could've improvosed by helping them understand why it happened that way
Who revived the big stein 🤣🫱
The face recognition is fine.. the autocorrect on the otter hangs is horribly!
