The reason operation Valkyrie wasn’t successful was because the original meeting was supposed to take place in a bunker which would have amplified the concussive force of the blast and killed everyone in the room—high ranking nazi officials and chain of command, including hitler. However, the day was extraordinarily hot and as there was no AC in the bunker, the meeting was moved last minute to a wooden cabin at the same site so as to be more comfortable. This diminished the lethality of the bomb significantly enough that hitler survived his injuries. Crazy to imagine what might have been had it succeeded.
