Venom stings can help alleviate chronic pain like arthritis. The crows are smart enough to teach and learn pattern recognition for that. Or maybe they're just weird

This is called anting. When threatened, ants secrete a chemical called formic acid, which birds take advantage of as a natural insecticide to kill or repel parasites such as mites. So this is kind of like a spa treatment. They sometimes even crush the ants first to release more of the acid.
