As a teacher, I hate that I have to worry about this. I hate that I have to be trained on different scenarios and what to do every year. I hate that my students have to participate in drills and that I have to have very real conversations with them at such a young age.

I worked at an elementary school for 1 year as the bookkeeper when I was 20, and this was one of my biggest fears Edit: I worked at a ghetto school so there you go, that’s why it was a fear of mine. Multiple times we had parents full on fighting in the front office because someone ran into another person’s baby daddy/mommy and or they were sending their kids to school with drugs to sell

I went to high school with that actor that had the quick like foxes line. Anthony can do anything well. He kills this role!

I was working at a tax agency about 10 minutes away from the school. This was a terrifying day and all of those children were bussed safely away from the school. Nobody died that day.

What’s sad is at my school, my English teacher pulled out of metal bar and said “it’s unfortunate I have to have a plan in case of a shooter, but I’m not letting anyone die bc I wasn’t prepared”

my district enforced this “every man for himself” rule teachers must follow safety protocols but it essentially allows students to take fleeing measures into their own hands. instead of being confined and forced to stay in a classroom, students could use emergency exits, regular exits, windows, etc. to flee if they feel it’s the right thing to do. they had sections of the schools zoned for this specific purpose. during our drills they’d say “active assailant was spotted in zone C” everyone in zone A&B could use exits to escape if need be. but zone c would have to remain locked down completely.
