The mighty Australians have set West Indies a daunting target of 308 runs to win.Sherwin Campbell and Adrian Griffith provide a steady start, but when Campbell falls lbw to Glenn McGrath, the first wicket crashes at 72 for 1. Then comes the collapse. Dave Joseph goes for just 1 at 77 for 2, trapped lbw by MacGill. Nightwatchman Pedro Collins is sent packing for a duck at 78 for 3. When Griffith departs for 35, the score reads a dismal 91 for 4, and shortly after, Carl Hooper falls for 6. The West Indies are reeling at 105 for 5.the innings was in desperate need of stability. Captain Brian Lara and the gritty Jimmy Adams answered the call by putting together a patient, invaluable partnership of 133 runs for the sixth wicket. #vintage #cricket While Lara provided the class and stroked his way toward a masterclass, Jimmy Adams played the perfect supporting role with immense determination. Adams faced 125 balls for his hard-fought 38 runs, blocking out the probing Australian bowling attack, absorbing the intense pressure, and allowing Lara to anchor the innings. This vital alliance rescued the West Indies from a total collapse, pushing the team score from a precarious 105 all the way to 238, before Adams was finally bowled by Glenn McGrath.Just when West Indies tries to breathe, Glenn McGrath returns breathing fire. He rips through the middle and lower order with surgical precision,McGrath claims crucial breakthroughs, including Jimmy Adams after a gritty 38, Ridley Jacobs, and Nehemiah Perry. The scoreboard tells a story of absolute panic: wickets tumble until the score hits 248 for 7, and then 248 for 8.Amidst the ruins stands one man: Captain Brian Lara. Playing an innings of pure genius, Lara battles like a lone warrior against the odds. He finds a vital, brave ally in Curtly Ambrose. Together, they grind out a crucial partnership, adding vital runs while Lara strokes his way past a magnificent, unbeaten century. Ambrose eventually falls for a heroic 12, leaving the total at 302 for 9. The target is agonizingly close, but the last man is in.Breath is scarce at Kensington Oval. The score is 311 for 9. Enter Courtney Walsh. With victory just inches away, Walsh plays the role of the ultimate protector. He stands tall, dead-batting incoming thunderbolts from the Australian pacers, shielding his nerves, and blocking every ball to keep his captain on strike. Brian Lara guides the final blow, finishing with an immortal 153 not out off 256 balls. The ball races away, the crowd erupts into wild pandemonium, and the West Indies pull off a miraculous, heart-stopping one-wicket victory—cementing Brian Lara’s captain's knock as one of the greatest in the history of the sport! The Greatest Test Chase Ever! (4th test aus dropped shane warne but won the test to even the series 2-2)
This is why I have said it repeatedly, that Brian Charles Lara is the greatest batsman of all time, base on the innings he played on so many occasions under so much pressure,to rescued the West Indies. No other player in the history of the game has done that consistently.
Nobody better than Lara!! Lara is the greatest!!
Lara showed why he is the G.O.A.T of batsmanship. What made this innings great is the fact that the opposition was one of the mightest of Australian teams and Lara had little help by stroke makers but blockers.
Lara is a world test top no 1
Prince Brian Charles Lara! No words! No one even comes close! 🙏🏽🌺🙏🏽 Genius and Entertainer rolled into one. ❤️👏🏽👌🏽
Greatest test innings.
Old is gold... What a run chase innings prince 👑 briyan Lara...
Jimmy Adams deserves some of the credit here. If Jimmy had gotten out before helping to build up the score, Brian would not have been out there long enough to make 153, because the others who came after Jimmy didn't make massive scores either. Jimmy has always answered the call when he needed to be depended on to do so.
