People don’t realize how much time and resources it takes to socialize a feral cat after a certain point. Shelters are overrun with cats already, and you would be hard pressed to find a long term foster. Most likely this cat would’ve gotten bounced home to home until it got put down at a shelter or thrown out where it could start killing other animals again.

People need to understand the feral cat population is so bad to the point where hunters will shoot a cat on sight and so people need to realize keep your cats indoors or heavily supervised and we need to stop the feral cats

Hawaii does the same thing. They dispatch problematic cats and fix, clip and release back the chill ones. Isolated islands have very delicate eco systems and cats are the bane to their fauna.

“Conservation is a science, not an emotion” is a phrase I heard while studying conservation and ecology. You can’t let emotions get in the way of what you need to do and for the environment it’s getting rid of pest plant and animal species. It’s not a nice solution, but it is the only one. What we can do is work to make sure we never need to do it again. People who protest the killing of pest species don’t understand or care about nature, conservationists don’t kill invasive species for fun.
