In 1967, Kathrine Switzer registered for the Boston Marathon using her initials, since women were banned from the race. During the run, race director Jock Semple grabbed her and tried to pull off her numbers, but her boyfriend blocked him and she kept going. She finished in 4 hours and 20 minutes, and a few years later women were officially allowed to compete.
