All Xbox has to do is confirm a disc drive in their next console
All Xbox has to do now is “this is how you share a game with friends”. Full circle
Just announce your console with a disc drive and sticking to physical media and i'll convert over to Xbox Microsoft, i've missed u guys anyway.
This definitely seemes like prep for next gen, ngl. It's basically making your discs a digital license, which I WILL TAKE over Sony's alternative.
For all these people who are confused, this license is based off your disc ID (see that information on the inner ring when you turn the disc over? That's what the ID is generated from) and IT TRAVELS. Meaning if you sell your disc, the NEXT person gets the license when they install it and yours gets removed. This is NOT a fire-and-forget kind of process - the disc is still the key to getting a digital license. Microsoft went over this when they announced the program over the summer.
I know there is a lot of push back against digital lately, but this seems like a total win for gamers if it works as presented here. Buy the game physically once, put the disk in, redeem the digital license and store the physical disc away safe where you can preserve it. Kind of like how I would never take an original music album into the car.
Someone get that man a wizard hat
Jason Ronald is the kerry king of xbox
This is basically for those who want to switch to Digital but keep their physical collection. It doesn't solve the problem of eliminating physical. If a company decides to end it then that's it.
13 years ago all microsoft had to do was say you get a digital version with every physical Xbox one game like this and they could have still supported used games and avoided the massive mistep that doomed them for what's going on two generations. If they had we'd be living in an alternate reality.
All we want is to be able to put our OG Xbox and Xbox 360 discs into the Series X and play them. Just let us play ANY game we physically own from previous consoles. Is that really too much to ask for???
Talk about a well rehearsed interview
If next xbox has a disc drive you win that simple.
But he didn´t say if XBOX is staying with physical for new releases or not. For me it sounds like they are preparing for digital only too.
This is why we need competition
What about Xbox 360 or even the original Xbox?
You put your disc in the drive. It gives you a digital version that you can play on Xbox, PC, or stream via Cloud. You buy your game once and own it across wherever it’s available. You can lend/sell your physical games to others to have the same options open to them since it’s not tied to your account. Features like Quick Resume make the experience faster to jump in and out of instead of loading each game over from the start. You get synced achievements and access to your cloud game saves. I believe this is what actual prep for a “digital future” looks like in the console space. Give us that free online for multiplayer across the board since Helix will be a PC hybrid and we’re golden.
I own a Series X 1TB and 84 physical games and 509 Digital games 🎯. So being able to play all my games on the future Xbox Console means the servers will still be working years from now Even on my Series X 😊
It was nice knowing you, playstation
This is the first time in years a company has actually done preservation RIGHT. I have like 100+ Xbox discs from 360/One era just collecting dust because I don't want to swap discs anymore. Being able to convert them to a real digital license that works with Play Anywhere and cloud streaming is huge. And Jason saying you still get to keep the disc is key - this isn't killing physical, it's just giving us a choice. W move Xbox, this needs to come to PlayStation too.
