By meta's own internal data, at least 10% of their revenue is from scams. So $20 billion of the $200 billion is from running ads for phishing, fake giveaway, stock/crypto pump and dumps, fake job offers, etc.

This is so much worse than "a slap on the wrist". This is one of the biggest catch and kill schemes ever. Remember, this was _all_ US states vs unfiltered corporate meddling with, and manipulation of, public conversation. Now they're free to carry on with no consequence, and all they had to do was to spend a couple months income on it. Can we all pay a couple months income to go full purge, or is this limited to a handful billionaires?

As far as I understand, agreeing on a settlement prevents the establishment of a proper precedent... Basically, other cases will not be able to point at this case and say "they were found guilty" instead the precedent is "they settled it with money". Just another way big corpos can avoid the law for what amounts to chump change, and some lip service.

I always thought the smart glasses thing would be rejected by society unless they made them without cameras first. You need to normalize the form factor before you violate our privacy.
