8x Your RAM

Tech

Writer: Kyler Himes Editor: Joshua Lambourne Stevenson Music by: @UFD-Music Watch out, cause all the AI bros are about to buy these things up crazy style A couple crypto-mining cards from a few generations ago just got a new hack that DRAMATICALLY increases the amount of VRAM for AI processes The 250 US dollar CMP 170HX originally came kitted with either 8 or 10 gigabytes of VRAM, but modders have figured out how to software-unlock up to 64 gigs with literally no physical changes It works because these cards are essentially the same things as high performance A100 that costs thousands of dollars - but with damaged silicon inside the numerous memory modules They could be disabled for anything from being fully non-functional to just not meeting Nvidia’s standards, and if it’s the latter, you can tinker with them to maximize the capabilities of the hardware and push it to potentially extra dozens of gigabytes of Vram - there’s just no telling how long it’ll last, and no guarantee of stability
