The fact that the CPS lady tried to convince them not to adopt the children that no one wants to adopt is absolutely part of the reason no one wants to adopt them and it's absolutely the most realistic aspect of this CONTEXT UPDATE/EDIT: I am a former foster child along with my siblings we all had trauma and Disabilities that caused people to consider us "troubled", I also have had several friends who've been thru the system with similar experiences, so my opinion is based on lived experiences. Argue if you want but know if you don't have irl experience in this area idgaf what you "think" bc its surmountable to fantasy. [Thanks for the 21k likes omg it's only been like a day]

I was bus friends with a girl that would pretend to be a cat. She'd meow on the bus and was severely bullied. I also could kind of tell she had some form of intellectual disability. One day I just started telling her about my little sister (she's autistic and would also do the cat thing). She suddenly stopped acting like a cat and just started telling me all this horrible stuff that happened to her before she was put with her foster family. Molestation, beatings. Another time I talked about how my little sister was afraid of baths and she said she was too because her daddy tried to drown her in the bathtub on multiple occasions. Be nice to the weird kids y'all. You never know if they've gone through something.

I feel so awful for that poor baby in the bathtub scene.. I used to love baths as a little girl.. then when I was 3 yrs old I hated them and they terrified me. My cousin molested me when I was 3 while I was taking a bath. I have hated baths ever since and it’s EXTREMELY rare that I take one unless I’m hurting really bad in some way, shape or form. I will only take showers.

My Dad did something similar to my little sister when she was 4 she kept going into the dog food to pretend she was a dog. One day my dad caught her doing it again before dinner. He picked her up and got her in the highchair opened a canned dog food on her plate. You bet your butt she didn't pretend she was a dog. Once she obviously said no to the dog food she was given her actual dinner.

Seeing a child react like that is heart breaking. A child who shows such visceral reactions to a certain stimuli never indicates anything good. Whether it was physical or sexual, some form of violent abuse took place.

With a kid that old, there’s no way just giving her a plate of mice is gonna make her stop acting like a cat. Maybe that would work on a 4 year old… but a bigger kid like that would need some therapy in the least. She’s old enough to have an established personality independent from the people around her, it’s not like she’s a toddler. Like find her a better coping mechanism she obviously has a coping problem

I think one reason for the cat thing is as an escape from the complexity and terror of human life into the seeming simple yet infependant life of a cat. Cats don't have to figure out the (human) social rules, they just receive affection and attention whenever they please, and are otherwise left alone. Of course, this comes at a misunderstanding of cats, because they actually DO have a complex (less than humans, but still) social system between each other, and there is terror in being a cat, though I guess that's kind of a point where one can relate.

I'll say I was like the girl as a kid. Im autistic and struggled to express how i felt so I'd hiss when i got upset or mad because thats what i saw angry cats do and it was the only way that people listened. Usually theres a deeper reason behind certain behaviours
