In case anyone needs to hear this, once a plumbing fixture has become detached or there's a hole in the waterline, plugging it with your finger is NOT an option. Find the shutoff, ASAP. Once that's done, make repairs. Plugging it with your finger is just causing water to go down behind the walls where it will cause more problems.
