You've reached the end
Remember kids: If the fine is less than the profit, it's just a cost of doing buissness.
Every corporation since we showed them we are too afraid to break out the guillotine:
if the only punishment is a fine then its legal for a price.
The monopoly mug is a nice touch 😂
'The ROI just isn't there' - a true marketing person's line 😅
when fines are a single digit percentage of the scam then thats just the cost of business
thank you chris the bad vibes in this one are immaculate
"The ROI just isn't there" - I don't know, I could go for a good roll-up, maybe they're onto something!
Bold of you to assume amazon executives wouldn't take so much joy from stealing a kid's lunch that the ROI would come purely from that.
These corporations always run the risk/reward calculation first whether it's something legal or not
Unless the consequence outweighs the gains, companies will continue the practice.
"It only cost us 2.5 billion dollars" is a frankly diabolical statement. When that amount of money is just a rounding error, to be considered the 'cost of doing business' there is something seriously wrong. And they're going to keep doing it until it actually hurts their bottom line.
The only thing they would actually be afraid of is if instead of fines, executive staff went to prison
Just a reminder that unless Executives and Shareholder are sent to jail and assets seized this shit will never stop.
There are "fines" against the big 3 supermarket chains in my country every couple years. Those fines are like 20k€ when they've made 2mio€ from the scam. I wonder why they keep doing it.
This is why fines should be in % of income/asset price AND C-suite pay (including retroactively to prior board members)
And no jail time for any of these crooks.
Chris, this is exactly like the P&O fire and rehire case (fired 800 workers and rehired the roles as agency staff on much lower pay and worse terms). Their CEO (Peter Hebblethwaite) admitted to a UK parliamentary committee that it should have consulted unions, but said that no union wouldn't have agreed to the cuts, so they just took the hit on the compensation, switched permanent staff out for agency staff and said he would do it again next time.
Also, the fines don't go to the consumers. The people who lose out don't even see any of the retribution
