Did Parton ever cover any songs from Porgy and Bess? No. However she did appear for an audition for the role of Bess in a skit with Oprah, as seen in this video! What’s interesting is that in reality, Anne Brown, the protagonist of my historical novel, Gershwin’s Bess, wasn’t told she was too young (Bess is young), but that she was too light-skinned and had to apply dark make-up for the stage.
