Martin Devlin sits down with All Black icon Murray Mexted in South Africa to break down the team named for test three in Soweto. Asafo Aumua gets the start at hooker, and Mex explains why Dave Rennie is rewarding pure performance. We discuss the physical battle up front, lineout possession, and what it takes to win at altitude.

Alb must have some compromising photos. Tavatavanawai would of been a better option
SA’s brutal game vs the AB’s beautiful game. It’s the clash of completely different, yet effective styles between teams with so much history that makes this series so compelling!
I guess we don’t want any go-forward in the midfield after all. We needed either Tavatavanawai or Rieko on the bench to bring some go forward and break the game open late. Forwards are great but interested to know what the rationale is. Vaa’i provides flair and go-forward, paired with high defensive work rate Darry to start and then high defensive work rate Holland to replace him later in the game? Looks like the making of an AB bomb squad, especially with Sititi replacing Lakai to maintain go-forward late in the game. But without Parker, defence is a bit of a worry. He was going toe to toe with Jasper last week.
Really enjoyed hearing Mex talk about the psyche in south africa, in a complimentary way, it's rare and he gets it. That's how a lot of people grow up and that's part of life in s.a Cheers.
Bok supporter here. I agree with MM - Whitelock and Rettalick were utter class. Hard to replace.
Sorry Murray if he’s picking on performance what the hell is ALB doing there Looks like he has his favourites just like razor And that went so well for razor did it not .
When Holland comes on it will be for Jacobsen. Vaa'i will go to six and Lakai to seven. Then we'll have a bigger pack than we started the game with just as the Saffas tire...
Mex is the 1st AB I admired; his passion for the game and how tough he was is legendary - I'll never forget waking up with my Dad at 4:00am as a 5-year-old to watch the Boks play the ABs in NZ in 81 - fond memories.
Mex is so legendary, always brings a fresh perspective. He's right about Aumua & Darry - expecting huge games from them.
ALB is like little red riding hood in our back line. Tavatavanawai is the big bad wolf 🐺 Renz what's wrong with you bro!
Starting to get that feeling in the stomach that comes waking up at 3am and hoping the boys can get it done, come on lads we got this!
Saffa here. Absolutely brilliant show and analysis. Thank you. May the best team win
I was there for the first two tests in both Joburg and Cape Town. Managed to meet Jamie Wall at the Eggchasers event, but one of my regrets over the past 2 weeks was not being able to meet yourself (Marty), and Murray Mexted. Perhaps next time.. possibly next year at the World Cup?
i like the changes to hooker, and lakai is a better option than parker. But why isn't blackadder at least on the bench? He suits playing against the boks and why is ALB still there over reiko or tavanawai lol..
As a Bok supporter I can't believe Reiko is not on the bench.
Jacobson needs to be better this week. He was getting loose last game and was on the cusp of being a penalty magnet. A little worried for the lineout. Reiko or Tavatavanawai over ALB. He hasn’t done anything wrong, he just doesn’t offer a point of difference.
Lakai & Aumua going to open a can off whipass this weekend
Stoked with the front rows.
Dropping arguable one of our best players in Holland to the bench is a head scratcher, doesn’t scream rewarding form. Same with lomax, hasn’t been at his best at all. Sick of ALB, no impact when we have the likes of tava and reiko waiting.
Let Rennie do Rennie..I was hoping for Rieko, Blackadder or Narawa to get a shot but I also trust Rennie and his team. The Boks will struggle at high altitude and we should have the measure of them with an expansive game ... ABs by 4 🤙🏾
