Honestly, not surprised. If you look at the OG AC, deep in the config files, you find so much random stuff that they wanted to implement (driver swaps being one), but just never finished... Kunos is really good at making games, that are only half way finished.
Assetto Corsa Evo 0.10 update coming out next
Kunos somehow brought the Italian car owning experience into sim. It only works half the time, is missing features, but when it works, is great to drive.
This is a Simulator with an identity crisis. If the 'Open World' element doesn't materialise i don't see any other reason to choose this over any other Sim.
This game died to me when they canceled the career mode and economy system
There isnt even a structured HOTLAP MODE WITH GHOST. Literally just Trackday Nürburgring
We should be worried that we have been waiting ages for it and now it’s not great…..
Unfortunately i feel like the biggest issue isnt even the technical issues, it really just is "there is not really much incentive to play this" over anything else. For a lot of people that was the career mode free roam stuff.. im jsut so glad i waited to pick it up and I will continue to do so.
When this was announced for early access, I had sworn off paying for early access. This is the ONLY game, ever since then, I've paid for that wasn't _"finished"_ because I trusted Kunoz. I'm greatly disappointed and disgusted
AC EVO hasn't crashed on me EVEN ONCE, since I uninstalled it.
After getting burned by Kerbal Space Program 2, I've taken the "Never buy a game based on future promised features, buy it for what it is now" advice to heart. So glad I didn't jump at my initial excitement for AC Evo. I probably will buy it some day when they finally turn it around, but it's taking a while lol
They promised a bunch of stuff they have absolutely no idea how to deliver. In other industries this is known as "lying" or "fraud" but apparently all you have to do is call it "early access" and that's OK now?
I was looking forward to ACE when it was announced. I was sad it got delayed from its original release date in september to january. Its crazy that it has been 1.5 years since its release, and they haven't delivered on many of their promises. I have 500 hours in the OG AC, I have less than 20 hours in ACE... says something.
We should be worried that we have been waiting ages for it and now it’s not great….. ......
I 'm not sure after 0.9 comes 1.0, i think is 0.10
Kunos can go kick rocks for all I care. They sold people a big pipeline of content, only to then go ahead and say "Nah, won't happen." because they can't be assed to work on their game. The devs act like entitled brats and keep pulling more and more content from the game in hopes that modders get fed up enough that they start doing the work by themselfs, whilst Kunos leans back and just cashes in.
I cannot imagine the work done on the free-roam map just going to the scrap. It's obviously coming in some way or another. If Kunos is smart about this they should really lean into this aspect. Competition as you said is entirely fulfilled by iRacing and now LMU and there's like 4 alternatives to them as well. AC has been successful for street cars, and modded content, mostly big maps but also tracks and hillclimbs. If ACEvo can show that it's a good platform for hosting custom maps with or without traffic, with easier integration of modded content, better netcode, load times and such as the original, it will succeed. It can succeed as a better version of what AC is currently. Which is the premier method for racing various cars in casual lobbies or free roaming and touge racing with a higher degree of authenticity than say Horizon or Test Drive.
0:30 Editor-Chan knows all about those janky crash physics
AC evo went from something I was really excited for to something I almost dread... I understand I'm not necessarily the target audience, since I dislike online multiplayer as a core focus of games, am not super competitive, and don't own a steering wheel, let alone a sim rig, but I bought the game right on early access release on the promise of it essentially doing much of the best parts of gran turismo (progression, car customisation, licenses), and a bit of TDU (open world map to explore, shops and dealers to visit), and sim handling that was realistic enough to satisfy all the sim guys, while still being accessible enough to enjoy on controller. Seeing that they've actively moved away from the promise that sold me the game is super disheartening, and the solice I get in all this is that because I bought it right at launch (and I think I got it on the humble store for a discount), I at least paid well below full price, and what I did pay is right at the upper limit of what the game is worth now, to me anyway Also, it's wild the performance is still such an issue, back on launch I tried it on my 4060 at 1080p, also at medium-ish settings, and while I could get 60ish fps in the dry, frame rate would tank in the rain, and especially with other cars around. In its current state I genuinely don't know who the game's for. They clearly bit off way more than they could chew, but I think they would've been better off shelving the open world, rather than the career and academy, and then release the map way later, either as a 2.0 update thing in one go, or in chunks once v1 or the game is out
It's best to 'cut bait' with AC Evo as they've reneged on what they laid out on their own road map. When someone reneges on what they laid out, especially after a customer pays money, they are seen as a greedy liar and deserve to be called out on it.
