I’m so happy and grateful that you highlighted Flora Danica. It is the only Royal Copenhagen dinnerware still made in Denmark. Royal Copenhagen, like many of the great Nordic tableware brands, is now part of Fiskars Group, and most of its porcelain production has moved to Thailand. As a professional ceramist, I find this development bittersweet. My concern is not where something is made, but what we lose when production leaves the places where generations of specialised knowledge and craftsmanship were built. Northern Europe once had an extraordinary ceramics industry, with highly skilled craftspeople, decorators, model makers and production specialists. Much of that knowledge has disappeared together with the factories. That is why seeing Flora Danica still being made in Denmark feels especially meaningful to me. It is not simply a beautiful porcelain service — it is a living piece of European ceramic craftsmanship.
