A few asked for an alternative in the comments. Here's one that looks good, another BU40N, but haven't tested this one specifically though! Also worth noting, the cable I got with mine wasn't great, but I had a spare chunky one in my cupboard of cables! Sounds like someone needs to make a Linux tv distro.
YouTube has hid this from me for 1 minute too long
You, good sir, ARE A GENIUS
KDE Plasma Bigscreen just dropped btw and it's free. Not as a customizable YET, but very promising.
I don't know what's changed with the algorithm, but these past few days I've been getting brilliant, smaller channels that are right up my street. Very cool build from someone who seems to just do what it says on the tin with the video without the usual YT faff. Definitely earned a sub and a lIke.
Awesome stuff. Going to need more of this as the enshittification continues on all ends from all companies.
I am so grateful that you took the time to add closed captions to this video. As someone who is half-deaf, I cannot thank you enough!
HTPC: _"You could not live with your own failure. Where did that bring you? Back to me."_
That waydroid project is super cool
Could you please please PLEASE make a full tutorial on how to configure it like you
me watching this on my full linux pc connected to my TV, hidden in a cabinet :-> best setup ever
I'm glad you mentioned that you can't get above 720p for streaming services on it. Most people don't mention that.
such a clever all-in-one box!
Honestly with all the new smart TVs being HD spy devices yeh W
I was watching this earlier and it closed mid-video saying it was pulled for guideline violations. Lmao
Blu ray player: $90 8bitdo controllers: $30 Geekom mini pc: $749
Damn I have that same Rii remote, love that thing. But oh boy they really need to update it to USB-C.
I been wanting too do something similar, but was never sure how to go about it. I really appreciate this as a good starting point for my own version of this. Thank you for sharing.
0:58 - 8-Bit Do rhymes with Nintendo. Finding that out was a real forehead slap moment for me.
I actually did something pretty similar, except I decided to go with KDE Neon. There's a Plasma-Bigscreen-dedicated distro that uses the new Bigscreen launcher which is specifically designed as a 10-foot interface. Honestly I think it's a very handsome setup; still in development so rough around the edges at times, but I just installed Steam + Stremio + some emulators and the same Waydroid + Android TV image and even with an aging i3 8th Gen Intel processor, it's really snappy and smooth, and I'm not being choked to death by ads everywhere. Very pleased with it as a desk-top HTPC box, even if it required a little more configuration than I would like.
