It’s time to bring a little Practical Magic into my kitchen 🍂✨ Today I’m resetting and decorating my kitchen for early autumn, inspired by the wonderfully cosy, collected interiors of Practical Magic and those nostalgic 90s movie homes that somehow always feel so warm and inviting. This time last year, there was definitely no autumn decorating happening here. My kitchen renovation was beginning, there was dust everywhere and I was right in the middle of the messy stage. So being able to actually enjoy the finished kitchen and decorate it for autumn this year feels extra special. Rather than filling the house with lots of new seasonal decor, I wanted to focus on creating a feeling. Think warm woods, vintage and second-hand pieces, soft lighting, old books, baskets, pottery, autumn flowers and those slightly whimsical details that make a home feel collected over time. I’ve been fascinated lately by nostalgia decorating and why homes in films like Practical Magic, You’ve Got Mail and Stepmom feel so comforting. They aren’t perfect or overly styled. They’re layered, lived-in and full of personality, and that’s the feeling I wanted to bring into my own cottage kitchen for autumn. Along the way, I’m giving my little cosy corner a seasonal refresh, shopping my own home, sharing some of the history and design inspiration behind the iconic Practical Magic kitchen and looking back at just how far this room has come since the renovation. And, because a Dainty Diaries DIY rarely goes entirely to plan, there’s also a fridge vinyl makeover that becomes a bit of a fail...
