This was the closest call in Wheel of Fortune history

Comedy

One of the closest calls in Wheel of Fortune history happened on May 5, 1986, when contestant Ken reached the Bonus Round with the puzzle “AT MY WIT’S END.” Ken initially gave the wrong answer, “At my cat’s end,” before realizing his mistake with virtually no time remaining. He began correcting himself just before the buzzer, saying “At my…” and then finished “wit’s end” as time expired. The finish was so close that Pat Sajak couldn’t immediately determine whether Ken had solved it in time. With no commercial break remaining to quietly review the tape, production actually stopped recording while officials decided whether his answer should count. When filming resumed, an off-camera voice announced “winner,” confirming that Ken had gotten enough of the correct answer out before time expired. The moment became even stranger years later. When Wheel of Fortune revisited the clip during its ceremonial 4,000th episode in 2003, the footage was reportedly edited into a montage in a way that made it appear Ken had actually lost after answering “At my cat’s end.” In reality, Ken won the Bonus Round by one of the smallest margins imaginable, creating a finish so tight that production had to stop the show to determine the result. #WheelOfFortune #PatSajak #GameShowHistory #BonusRound #ClassicTV #TVTrivia
