On January 9, 2007, Steve Jobs didn't just launch the iPhone — he announced the funeral of BlackBerry and Nokia. His point was brutal: BlackBerry and Nokia had fixed keyboards in plastic. The buttons could never change. Every app wants a different interface. What if you think of a great idea 6 months later? You can't add a button. They're already shipped. His solution? Get rid of all the buttons. Make a giant screen. And use the best pointing device ever invented — your fingers. He called it Multi-Touch. And with that one move, BlackBerry and Nokia were already dead. They just didn't know it yet. Do you remember your BlackBerry or Nokia? The best part about the old internet and social media is that when you left it, it left WITH YOU and you didn’t see it again until you reached the means of accessing it again, it didn’t follow you everywhere and wasn’t a part of your daily life, the old internet was much much more “human” for lack of a better phrase. Miss you old internet 🌹
