You've reached the end
And THAT ladies is how you know who your true friends are and who you should pick to be your bridesmaids. Because if they aren’t willing to get possessed by a demon or kidnapped for you for your big day are they REALLY your friends?
Tbh it sounds pretty fun to be a bridesmaid 100+ years ago.
Fantasy romance novel idea. The demon king is trying to abduct the bride but gets the bridesmaid instead. Romance novel hijinks ensue
They were also, very far back, suposed to (or at leats allowed to) have a knife or sword to protect the brids honor
They would also have to know how to fight to protect the bride. They were essentially a bodyguard.
At one point in history, the bridesmaid was also chosen as a replacement for the bride if the bride died so that’s why it was usually a sister or a cousin
Best fact: Maids of Honor back then also carried weapons to protectthe bride from being kidnapped and wedded off to another suitor. So if you're a geeky girl or have a geeky friend, have a themed wedding of some kind of anime or fantasy and have your maid of Honor carry a weapon to protect you.
In Greece the bridesmaids would also have weapons. If someone tried to kidnap the bride they would kill him.
The bridesmaids dress is so pretty thouugh!
But lwk, the bridesmaid is a good friend at least. She just doesn't want her friend to get possessed 😂
I think I agree with the destination wedding being worse :D
This is why I got all my bridesmaids knives for a bridesmaid gift. They were gorgeous with a curled handle and an embossed leather sheath so they could either slide into a pocket or strap to their leg. I forgot to get myself one and I was so bummed that my husband got me one for my birthday. 😂❤
I knew all of this and, considering my allergy to onion/garlic, was very pleased that was no longer a requirement. Thankfully, my bridesmaid days were a few decades back, before the destination stuff. I just had to make punch, get a cake, and plan some stupid bridal shower games. 🎉
And the best man is supposed to be your fiancee's best _swordsman_ for similar reasons.
iirc, the best man’s job used to be to fight the lover of the bride who tried to rescue her from the arranged marriage the day of the wedding.
The veil was very beautiful 😂
They still do something like this in some places. I recently learned that in I think China? There is a tradition that if you walk in front of the bride you can steal her wedding day luck and/or curse their marriage so bridesmaids have taken to creating elaborate hidden entrances and fake ones so that the luck snatchers lose the element of surprise and can be held down by reasonable people while the real wedding entrance happens. People are crazy and will do anything for some extra “luck” except take responsibility for their own choices. Lol
That's so cool!! I had no idea about all of these traditions :D
Really no worse than the former role of the best man. His job was to accept any challenge to the groom or the bride's honor on the groom's behalf, so like, there was a chance you could end up in a swordfight to the death if you were the best man. It was also his job to accept the bride's hand in marriage in place of the groom if the groom died or ran, so you better make sure your groom is healthy and happy (and doesn't have any major enemies) before you accepted that role 😂
Romance idea: During a ceremony with these sort of traditions an actual demon prince (or some guy like that) mistakenly kidnaps a bridesmaid protagonist. He's miffed about it but can't get the initial bride because she's now married to her husband, so the demon settles with the maid. Bonus points if the demon and original bride DID like each other so now the maid and demon gotta work through that baggage together. Enemies to lovers, angst, healing journey.
