This NOCO GB40 car jump starter thing was sent in to my PO Box by Pete. He says it was left in his shed for a couple of years and now refuses to charge. Let's test it out, crack it open and see if we can work out why! And try and fix it, obvs. Hope you enjoy! Steve PS. I'm not an expert in repairs at all. I do this for fun, and it may not be the best or safest way to go about repairing broken stuff. I'm pretty good at melting plastic though. Please don't copy me - I'm an idiot. Steve drives an s2000? Let's go.
Field testing the charger was such a bonus for the video! I got excited like we were all going on a field trip with Steve 😂😂😂 Thanks for all the content Steve! Love your videos.
Hey Steve, just a quick tip: next time you have a battery pack like this, you can measure the individual cells using the small balancing cable. That's also what the charging circuit does to ensure all cells stay the same. Charging could also be done through them; however, they are thin wires, so probably at low current! And please start temporarily insulating the battery terminals; I was just waiting for them to touch and everything to go wrong. BTW, nice S2000!
S2000 , the driving experience is 100% ............"PURE"
Oh boy… there were balance leads connected to each individual cell! That means you can electrically access the positive and negative terminals of every single cell through these leads. This was a completely unnecessary and potentially dangerous modification. Please, for God’s sake, do not work on LiPo batteries like this again! And DO NOT MIX DIFFERENT BATTERIES. These are high-C discharge batteries, designed to deliver extremely high currents. You cannot simply replace one of them with a cheap or different battery. The batteries need to be properly matched in terms of chemistry, capacity, voltage, discharge rate, and condition. When the device is operated, hundreds of amps can potentially flow. A mistake in the wiring or an unsuitable battery can result in a short circuit, overheating, fire, or even a battery explosion. What you have done is basically like using a tiny doorbell wire as a jumper cable — and then wrapping that wire around a stick of dynamite. Please do not touch or modify LiPo batteries again unless you know exactly what you are doing and have the proper equipment and knowledge to do it safely.

Dude, you got the car of my dreams 🤩
S2000 niiiiiiiice!
Huh, would not have had you down as an s2000 owner. Cool car! 👍😁
Glad you was able to get it working Steve, much appreciated, Pete 😎👍🏻
My wife’s led table lamp/ power hub…thing was flashing all wonky. I looked at it and thought capacitor. Indeed it was a blown capacitor and I figured out the fault in the power hub part that was caused the whole problem. I got the usb hub part and the leds working right while removing the AC slots that were shady. Thank you Steve. I saved $10 because of you.
S2000 for a win!!
car repair next steve please lol
TBH when you started dismantling the batteries I was expecting an ElectoBoom type of episode.
Looking forward to placing the car on the desk for inspection, next week
Two british words I had to learn, in order are honked, and bellend. Now I can use them together, thanks Dave!
Cheeky S2000, have you ordered three "T66 turbos, with NOS, and a MoTeC system exhaust." 😉
S2000, a man of taste!
S2000 You Legend 👌🏻
Putting 2 type of cells Is asking for trouble. Don't use It anymore until you find a suitable replacement Cell.
