OKOCHA on THAT GOAL against Oliver Kahn πŸ˜…

Sports

Jay-Jay Okocha says the goal changed his life. August 1993, Eintracht Frankfurt against Karlsruher SC, and he came off the bench and beat what felt like the entire defence, plus Oliver Kahn, twice, before finally burying it. It finished 3-1, and the goal was voted Germany's Goal of the Year. Thirty years on, people still bring it up to him. It's also the moment his name travelled beyond Germany. Here's what he'd never planned though: holding the ball that long. Every time he set himself to shoot, somebody stepped in front of him, so he kept going, waiting for a gap that took far longer to appear than he wanted. And it very nearly cost him. His manager told him afterwards that if he hadn't scored, Okocha would never have played again. The best part is what came after. Kahn was in the middle of his best season at Karlsruhe, and Bayern signed him at the end of that campaign. Okocha has met him since, plenty of times, and has never once brought the goal up. His reasoning is perfect: you take one look at Kahn's face and you decide that isn't a conversation worth starting. He's a big lad. And he never smiles. 🀣 #football #funny #footballshorts
