Dimma, thank you so much for this message and for the sit-down chat. I think I’m about 50:00 or so minutes into listening, and honestly, it feels like you were speaking directly to me. I’m 39, single, never married, no children, and I turn 40 on October 30th. I’m actually getting a little teary writing this because I really needed the reaffirmation and confirmation of something I already know. A classmate and I went to two educational institutions together, and she got married last year. What hurt me deeply was how the friendship ended around her marriage. I had been there for her when she was struggling financially and emotionally, including when she was in the UK and would call me crying. Yet when she was getting married, she chose not to tell me, saying it was 'for her peace' and that this was simply how she was. The conversation felt like she was essentially saying, 'I don’t need you anymore'. And that really stung—not just because of the marriage, but because of what the friendship had represented. I also couldn’t help but feel that there had been an element of comparison or competition between us. I had come to the UK before her, completed my master’s before her, and achieved certain things before her. It sometimes felt as though marriage became the one thing she could use to feel ahead of me. But marriage isn’t an achievement that one person gets 'over' another. None of us gets to choose when someone else’s life unfolds, and nobody’s marriage makes them more worthy or successful than someone who is single. What hurt most was being told to 'go and heal' by someone I had shown up for repeatedly. I kept asking myself: what could I possibly have done to prevent you from getting married? If God had ordained that time for you, why would my knowing about it have threatened that? So, Dimma 54:34 , thank you. This conversation has really touched something in me. We are living in such interesting times, where people can sometimes treat marriage as though it automatically gives them a higher moral standing or makes them more worthy than those who are single. Your words reminded me that being married is not the measure of a person’s worth, character, or moral standing.

People forget the content creating is a job. No one vilifies doctors, accountants, market vendors etc for publicly showing their partners, but the minute a creator’s relationship crashes- it’s tied to them posting their partners?! Sadly, About 40% of my marriages in the world, end in divorce. Why do people think that creators are not subject to those stats? I’ve been married for 11 years and we are HEAVY on the grace of God. Luck ran out sometime around year 5.
