I am proud to own a fridge that doesn't need an update or an internet connection. Only time it has failed me is when the power went out, and thats the power companies fault not a failed update. A fridge should do one thing and one thing only, keep my food cold.

Back in 2018 we were getting a new fridge and the employee there cautioned us away from any "smart" fridges as just a power outage could cause the screen to no longer work

There's a reason the first thing we told the salesman at a local appliance store was we wanted no smart / connectivity on the washing machine we needed. Even if the wifi card isn't required to be connected, that board failing can cause the entire unit to fail.
We recently got a Samsung "smart" washer/dryer combo and it's a $2000 steaming pile of dog shit with a screen on it. The old ones worked perfectly fine and I'd love to sell this turd and buy an older model from the classifieds. Sometimes technology just isn't necessary.
