get married so your wife can live with you in portugal.
That property would be an absolute NO for me. Too many potential issues I think. good luck with your search!
No no no!!!!! land locked and too many gates. Barking dogs, hunting. You will ALWAYS be at the mercy of the neighbours
Run, donโt just walk away.
Avoid any property near or next to a farm or you will live with the stink of farm manure all spring and autumn and thick with flies in the summer and thick mud all winter. The biggest red flag is access over private land.
Too many red flags here. The main one being land locked. It just takes a misunderstanding and then you canโt access the house!
marrying you will give your British girlfriend the right to live, work, and study in Portugal as the family member of an EU/Portuguese citizen.
VERY CUTE, BUT NO NO NO, land lock NO good .
My old neighbours had 2 dogs that barked all day every day. When they moved out we suddenly realized how stressed we all were. Barking dogs are a hard no for me.
Too many, what ifs and maybes.
Too many gates would give me anxiety
Walkaway....
NO way! Run from this oneโฆ. Red flags everywhere!
Just get married, problem sorted
I had real issues with a land locked property when the owner of the land died and the new owner set out to make life as difficult as possible and costly with legal fees .
Pouring boiling soup back in a plastic container, puts plastic chemicals in your soup. Washing a glass bowl is better for your health.
If you didn't feel it in your gut right away, and there are too many compromises, it's not the one. Your perfect place will find you. I always start with geography. Ireland's weather varies more than people expect. The east and southeast are the driest and sunniest parts of the country. Wexford is known as the "sunny southeast," and the Rosslare area regularly logs the most sunshine hours. The west coast gets far more rain and takes the brunt of the Atlantic wind, while inland and sheltered spots are noticeably calmer. Since water matters so much to you, a few areas might be worth a look: โข Lough Derg on the River Shannon (bordering Tipperary, Clare and Galway) has calm lakeside living, boating, and more shelter from the wind than the coast. โข The Copper Coast and Dungarvan Bay in Waterford offer coastline with southeast weather. โข Wexford's coast and the Slaney estuary are the sunniest and driest option. โข Kinsale and the West Cork harbours are mild thanks to the Gulf Stream and very pretty, though wetter and windier. โข Carlingford Lough in Louth combines mountains and sea on the drier east side. And I'm with you on the barking dogs. I can't stand them either. That's a dealbreaker right there.
We bought a house in Mayo 2 years ago having lived full time in a van for 3 years and lived overseas for 20 years (British passport holders). Happy to share our experiences with you. There are a lot of pitfalls. We had 3 properties fall through because of various issues (wood worm, deeds incorrect, house built with contaminated concrete blocks and a 2-storey house with planning only for a bungalow). It was pretty wild west here in the past and people just did what they liked so from a legal perspective you need to be careful - get an engineer's report and a good solicitor before you invest. Having said that we were investing more than the places you are looking at so it was a bigger risk. Irish people are lovely. We have built community out here in Mayo very easily as there are a lot of "blow ins". Drawbacks are the weather and the cost of living (compared to Portugal it is very expensive). It is expensive to buy building materials and sometimes hard to find contractors who are reliable. We have made a good life but we don't stay here in the winter. Get in touch if you need help. I also commented on your FB post so you can DM me there.
Walk away.
Please do not rush into something you mite regret at a later date ,there are some beautiful places in Ireland ,look before you make any desistions ,you both will know when you see it ,I donโt think thatโs the right one, Ireland is beautiful .๐๐
