Science experiments are supposed to teach the kids something. I know they’re young, but this can be explained with very basic facts. The heavier something is, the harder it is to lift. Fire creates an upward breeze of hot air. The paper starts off too heavy to move, but as it burns away, it turns into tiny, weightless ash. That rising hot air easily pushes the lightweight ash into the sky. It's just weight vs. lifting power!
