A bit of an update today. I went back to the US for the first time since moving to Canada, I'm exploring more things on Vancouver Island, and I have very important visitors coming next week for Thanksgiving! _______________________ Hi! I'm Jen and I do things! My family and I moved from the east coast of the US to Victoria, BC in July 2026. Thanks to parliament passing Bill C-3, my kids (Phoenix and John) and I are dual citizens of Canada and the US. I'm currently sponsoring my husband, John, for permanent residency. On this channel I'm sharing our first year living in Canada. Help us out by leaving comments and follow along by subscribing! _______________________ I create these videos in Victoria, BC, on the unceded ancestral territories of the Lək̓ʷəŋən (Songhees and Esquimalt) Peoples. I acknowledge their enduring relationship with these lands and waters, and I am grateful to live, work, and create here. Don’t be apologetic about your home feeling like home. I’ve lived In Alberta 50 years but Nova Scotia is still home. You can love 2 homes.
I love the update ! Unfortunately, there were residential schools in the U. S. , it’s just not publicized .
The US did it too. At least Canada recognizes the trauma. The US does not. Loving your channel.
Happy first Canadian Thanksgiving!
We always have stuffing, cranberries and pumpkin pie with our thanksgiving dinner.
I have had my phone checked at Peace Arch border crossing with two other Canadians when going to Bellingham for the day. We were treated like criminals inside (told not to talk to each other, passports taken, passwords requested, questioned separately about our plans and on details about each other) It’s not just a rumour. This was several years ago.
There were "Indian Boarding Schools" in the US that the residential schools here in Canada were patterned after. You can find more information it the Truth and Reconciliation (TRC) Report online. They have PDFs on the TRC website. The summary report can give you some history. As an Anishinaabeg person here in Ontario I like to have wild rice on thanksgiving with all the other classic thanksgiving stuff.
No one can tell you where "home" is. Canada is a land of immigrants and people on the move so we get it. We also understand the feeling of waiting to exhale when you arrive back from a trip these days.
Butter tarts are a staple for our Thanksgiving
I JUST WANT TO WISH YOU AND YOUR FAMILY. YOUR FIRST CANADIAN THANKSGIVING. REMEMBER IN OCTOBER LOL 🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦
Jenn you can have 2 homes in your heart it is ok
Residential schools were operated all over both Canada and the U.S from the mid 1800’s with the last ones closing in the 1990’s. Over the last number of years Canada has finally begun to go down the road to truth and reconciliation. A long way to go but it is a good start. Hopefully the states will follow suit but it won’t happen under the Trump regime.
I guess the thing I like about you, Jen, and your family, is you are just a regular family, no big drama , etc. You do a great job of showing he human side of your journey. I know you guys have problems, challenges, etc. but I love how you get moving forward !
dont forget the stuffing! It's my favourite part :)
Thanksgiving dinner isn’t complete for me without stuffing, cranberry sauce and turnip. Yum. Enjoy your family’s visit! Happy Thanksgiving.
Oh my goodness your kitchen is amazing!!!!!
I think you'll love the Hawkins Cheezies. Definitely a favourite of mine, as there made in my hometown.
Happy Canadian Thanksgiving 🍁
Happy first of many Canadian Thanksgiving Jen.
if you are of French Canadian decent then you might like to try tourtiere (french style meat pie). It is very yummy and a traditional French holiday dish.
