In case anyone missed it, the problem is the lifter guide being made of plastic.

Dave, GM tech here. The bent push rods are more common to find in these and it’s not always because of what you found where the lifter was installed incorrectly. What we’re finding is that the solenoids can get lazy or the pins in the lifter won’t seat immediately coming out of AFM or DFM modes. If I find one bent push rod like what you had then it’s a lifter issue. If I find two on the same cylinder bent, then it is a solenoid issue.

The fact that GM put plastic push rod guides in and still haven’t changed it is absolutely pathetic

Putting plastic lifter holders inside the engine is insane. Wonder if they’re being replaced with metal brackets or just thicker plastic to last 60,000 miles

We always think that they’re trying to engineer a vehicle that can actually last 100,000 miles but what they’re actually doing is engineering a vehicle that can only last 100,000 miles… as we can see all the old cars back in the past… they have been passing 300 400,000 miles no problem but now we can barely get one past 50,000 without problems

The engineers that design today's engines are probably the same ones that design roundabouts. It's good if you can live thru it.
