Sponsor: ID-Cooling Frozn A620 SLK on Amazon https://geni.us/Vc8Zi We talk with Wendell about cool, older hardware that's still useful -- especially for self-hosting and bringing services into your own hands. The unfortunate reason DDR3 has once again found modern usefulness is due to the memory pricing crisis, perpetrated by AI companies -- namely, NVIDIA -- and the memory companies who supply them. We talk some cool, new-old hardware, including new motherboards with DDR3 and DDR4 support. The best way to support our work is through our store: https://store.gamersnexus.net/ Like our content? DDR3 Prices will increase after this episode
No, those DDR3 X99 systems were one of the best kept secrets.
Sandy/Ivy : Ah sh... here we go again...
I like when you and Wendell get together and do videos like this. Gives a shimmer of hope in the dim tech world we live in.
I feel young again now that I'm busting out things like my I7 4770 once more to get through this crisis as I need a second pc.
At this point we're starting to sound like Cubans ❤️ putting together a Cadillac. What's the latest Winamp skin?
DDR3 and 4 "Rides again"? Bruh, I haven't even gotten off DDR4
X99 will NEVER die. Long live Haswell and Broadwell!
The shortage has officially hit DDR3 LRDIMMs... Earlier this year (Feb 2026) I picked up 1TB of ECC DDR3 1866 (16x64) and 512GB of ECC DDR3 2133 (16x32) LRDIMMs for ~$300 from a local recycler. At the time, the 64GB sticks were selling for ~$25 each on Ebay. A stick of 64GB @ 1600 is now(October) selling for over $100 on Ebay. The 1TB of 64GB sticks went right into a NAS I built for a client, who used the savings to put 100TB more drives into it (and an additional 20TB cold spare). They wanted to build a second one in September for another site, but I told them that the cost of everything had doubled since then. This stupid bubble is ruining people's lives and businesses.
noooo those ddr3 x99 systems were one of the best kept secrets
I am considering dusting off my old ddr2 system to see if it works.
My 2500k wants to be used once again!
I am in Massachusetts. I do PCB design, repair and BGA work. I also have been desoldering chips from bad RAM DIMMs and putting together my own DDR5. They have been working great.
I’m running an aggressively overclocked Sandy Bridge CPU with a 2060 super and 16 gigs of DDR3 ram. I can play virtually anything on steam. This is the way.
Never stopped riding here 😂 Still have a DDR3 machine for youtube/light coding
Ah the future is here DDR3, so refreshing.

Pack it up boys, DDR3 will skyrocket, we'll have to do DDR2
Wendell reminds me of my grandpa, who was also named Wendell. He worked on the computers on nuclear subs, and then worked on satellites for NASA.
Oh man the X99, they were the best bang for your buck board for gaming for years in south america. AM4 was starting to take its place until the RAM apocalypse
