Right after the PS4 dropped, my local Walmart cleared out the red super slims for $60. I bought one for every room of the house, because even back then, a cheap blu ray player was around $100.

It was smaller and cheaper, perfect compromise

I prefer the sliding door, don't have to worry about the disc getting stuck in the console

I only know one model that supports PS2 games, it's a fat one with four USB ports and card slots

I have a super slim model PS3. I've had it for about a decade and it still works great.

And nowadays it's the most expensive model on the market while the original phat is the cheapest (except for NTSC phat, they're super expensive)

I have a soft spot for it. Never personally needed all the ports, and that slide-loading disk tray gliding open just satisfies my senses in a way that a mechanical tray just doesn’t. Is mechanical nicer tho? Yeah. Also, the benefit of the analog tray is that it allows you to play a handful of certain PS1 game discs that Sony inexplicably tried to block you from playing. I don’t remember which it was, but one of the old Tomb Raider games wouldn’t load for me. Something to do with the game being for in collections digitally on the PlayStation store? Maybe. The funny thing is that it’s an artificial block, with the tray on the super slim you can load up a different PS1 game, very quickly slide the tray open and swap discs while the PS logo boot screen shows, and boom, you can play the game no problems, just like with burned roms on CDs on the OG PS1.

It"s the most power efficient model with the largest HDDs. PS1 games play fine. They can run PS2 games that don't use the Emotion Chip (like the 2nd Gen model) but the CD drive won't read them so you need to copy the game file to the harddrive.

I have the Blue version of this one. The disc cover is WAY better than slot loading.

The original ps3 had multiple versions and only one of them was ps2 backward compatible. That was the most expensive model. The Ps2 backward compatibility has always been a way to reduce cost.

I'm puzzled as to why so many people dislike the PS3 Super Slim, considering it's an incredibly durable console.

I think the sliding disc cover was an upgrade. More practical and unique

My sliding disc cover was broken, but that 500 gb at the time was worth it. I bought it brand new at Walmart on black Friday in 2012. It was my introduction to GTA 5 online and Black Ops 2 multiplayer. I had a 5.77 K/D ratio, and modders tore it to pieces. Couldn't look at call of duty the same, since the old servers were dominated by modders.
