winnie probably doesn't even remember that he was the one that said that LMAO
Being Bilingual only has benefits. Language is so rich and precious. It is such a great opportunity for our tamariki.
We have the right to choose if we want to learn it
We already are bilingual. We now say bro as well as mate.
Winnie is so past his use by date
Ofc David Seymour doesn’t want to speak or learn more maori
You poor thing hahaha. Nice.
It should be an option
Don't force it on people. It's special it's valuable. If you mandate it people will not want it. It needs to be treated like a gift freely given so they can choose to accept or not.
Winston arrra arrraaa arrrra ummmm 😮Saddest part he actually believes he is doing good for maoridom
The cow boy hat origins are from the native Americans in Mexico,
I was born in Australia and I have high Maori back ground and that’s one thing iwish I could have the learning to fully speak reo Maori
Let's be honest Peter's is a lifelong politician. It shouldn't be allowed. Get a new job
We all bleed the same colour we are all human beings with one world one ocean one sky one race the human race
If Maori fund it themselves no tax payer money.
Everyone, everywhere should be Multilingual. There may be only 3 languages that will dominate the world in 150 years, but the way to prevent any language from dying is to teach it to young schoolchildren
Whoops... when Kohanga Reo started in 1982 Winston was not an MP. He missed out in the '81 elections under National.
Peters - maaahry, what is maaahry peters? 40 years bro. Wtf
Politicians need to learn to speak English correctly and actually answer questions.
I don't like most of what I heard here. You do NOT need to be able to speak Maori to be considered a "true New Zealander"! That is highly offensive and racist. Similarly of course Maori is a treasure (taonga) - as are all languages. And it would be highly beneficial for children to learn Maori - having bilingual abilities is a known advantage. However as much as it pains me, having to agree with Winston Peters (!) it is NOT okay for signs to not be in English when that's what people speak and directions are necessary- same in hospitals as road signs etc. Of course can include Maori underneath but the clear direction needs to be in English (larger, first), simply because that's how it is right now with what people understand/comprehend quickly. Now, in a number of decades if the majority are speaking Maori, those signs could be reversed (there may be certain regions/towns where the reverse is appropriate now). But practically speaking creating havoc for navigation is problematic, as is in times of heightened stress (hospitals). However why is this guy in the hat not being pulled up for his multiple racist comments? There is nothing wrong with being of European descent- why is he suggesting there is? This is infuriating- clearly the hosting is biased and not being carried out appropriately. Call racism - in all directions - out! Unbelievable.
