The Honda Prelude 3rd Gen was the first production car with 4 wheel steering. They were built from 1987 and had a full mechanical system with a steering shaft going from the front to the back into a second steering rack. I own a 1989 Prelude 16V with 4WS in Germany which is pretty much our Version of the SI. The "weird 90s tech" really feels natural once you get used to it and I love it! You might reconsider leaving the system in the R34 as it was somewhat "intended" by Nissan :D
