RIP pc enthusiasm 1995-2025. Started with a voodoo 2 and ended up with a 4070….no idea where things go from here
These retro videos are refreshing and nostalgic at the same time and I am 44.
i remember, sata hdd was THE upgrade.
Rolled ribbon cables... That was about the time when people started caring about air flow and thermals.
Round IDE cables was for better airflow!!!!! 😃
I remember IDE and floppy cables and having to move jumpers blocks and battling with settings in Device Mangler for I/O and IRQs and even bending pins on DIP chips and adding memory to boards
Still have my XP machine with 2 8800gtx in sli on a quad core extreem.
Unreal tournament or Quake!
The problem with the 8800 gtx/ultra was with working sli you could buy 2 8800 gt's for $200 less and get the roughly same performance.
“My first flatbed scanner used a SCSI connection (pronounced scuzzy).” It usually required a dedicated SCSI controller card fitted inside the computer.
I'm an Engineer at an Aerospace company, we have monitors with VGA plugs... From our laptops, we have USB-C hubs with HDMI, which then have HDMI to VGA or DVI cords just to use our monitors... They'll get us the nice CAD laptops, but we have 10-15 year old 22" monitors.
Still own 2x voodoo 2000 pci GPUs in box somewhere.
I have a 3dfx Voodoo in the basement, the addon video card. What a card, everyone wanted one to see an unpixalatedd Quake wall. The old stuff is fun!
you missed the "Thanks Steve" clip...
1:17 he almost said it
Wow …being 48 years old and living how it was versus how it is now…just crazy….
I would say leave the upgraded cooler on for use purposes, once finished and done, put the origional ones back on for display purposes.
Makes me wish I'd kept all the retro stuff I bought over the years. I still remember back around 2006, first build I had was an Athlon 64 3700+, 1GB DDR, 8800GTS 640MB, 500GB WD Caviar drive in an Antec 300 Illusion case. Miss that rig, it could play pretty much anything & it started out as an XP system that eventually got updated to Win7. Those were some awesome times for hardware & technology advances.
8:44 DVI-I is Digital and Analog video. The Analog signal, are the 4 pins around the spade. If the 4 pins are missing its DVI-D.
Oh the memories... Core 2 Duo E6600 + 8800 GTX was the IT build of the early Core 2 Duo era. I loved that thing so much!
