🍸 Buy my gin: https://jamesmaysgin.com/J-Landy The Series Land Rover. Possibly the greatest thing Britain has ever produced - with enormous charm and historic resonance....but it's also an appalling contraption. The steering and ride are terrible and Lucy Brown is simply too scared to drive it more than a few yards. So why did James buy it? Filmed by Eve and Lucy. Lucy having one of the most terrifying experiences of her life while wearing a shirt that reads "Seek Discomfort" is hilarious.
Lucy doing a test drive is a great addition to reviews of old and unwieldy cars. Watching her panic was so fun!
"Arse like a farmer's face" That'll be a sly remark to Jeremy then!
Lucy wearing a Seek Discomfort shirt (hello the folks at Yes Theory) whilst then trying to avoid discomfort is amazing!
On a German autobahn many moons ago I reached space shuttle re-entry speed in a LWB Land Rover. That's about 130km/h or 80mph. At such speeds steering and braking are on your Christmas wish list and should not be relied on to reach you. Selecting any gear was a lottery as to which one you selected. No tight gates on the gear box. Fuel consumption at this speeds was p;robably measured as gallons per mile. To top things off, a police officer stepped into my path to photograph the vehicle. I'm not sure if it was to record the fact I might have been speeding (I was) or to document that he'd seen an Army LR reaching such phenominal speed. Getting to te-entry speed could only be achieved on a motor way. Acceleration was measured in comparison to a glacier. Great vehicles, I think I need one now
Well "seek discomfort" indeed! 🤣 Poor Lucy!
Lucy fighting for her life while James is thinking, "I've had a good run."
"It's a characteristic of roads that they have other cars on them." "That's what I don't like about them."
Backside like a Farmer's face? - Farmer Clarkson?
When I was about Lucy’s age I owned a Series 2A. It was slow, awkward and not desperately comfortable. And I loved it!
Eve's expression at 9:12 could be the solution to world peace.
This old guy is being pretty patient teaching his daughter to drive.
I've never seen James look so appropriate for a car as he looks in this one.
fab to see Eve again
My series 2 and I have been together for 46 years. It's aging better than me.
Everytime I see an old Landy I quietly say 'Hello old girl' to it. This makes my internal British-ometer hit 10 and makes me feel all warm. Good old Landy's, a bit rubbish, but fantastically brilliant at the same time🇬🇧
06:21 Was anyone else waiting for him to say "Buffeting!"
Had a series 3 lightweight and drove it around France for a year. Was great. You don't steer those old landys, you point them.
I learned to drive in an old Series 3, now I have one of my own. Sure it's uncomfortable, noisy, lets water in and things fall off, but I still enjoy driving it. I have a comfortable chair at home, my Land Rover is for going places.
When do we get to try Captain Sloe Gin, James? 🙂
