A flying tank. What a great plane to help out ground troops. I've seen them shot to hell, holes all over, pieces of wings and rudder missing and was still not only able to fly but to also keep attacking. All the while keeping the pilot safe in his armored cockpit. The flying tank, only better...cause it flies.

It also has a titanium bathtub around the gunner. Another fun fact is that pilot is considered a gunner cause the A-10 is essentially a flying gun

My favorite aircraft of all time happens to actually be two, the A-10 Warthog and, the SR-71 Blackbird. I'm saddened that they stopped using the SR-71 but they are (for now) still using the A-10.

The gun is below the centerline, so firing the gun pulls the plane down. The plane had what's called pitch-trim-compensator for this exact reason. Ask me how I know :)

And yet, the A-10 couldn't kill a T-62 with the gun, not reliably. That was the whole point of putting Mavericks and Rockeyes on it 50 years ago.
