My dad has at least half a dozen “kids” who adopted him over the years because their own fathers failed to show up. It’s an incredible kind of man.

I did this for a friend. He was younger than me so I was more of a big brother than father, but his family had drug problems never saw him never helped him. He stayed with me for a year. I helped him thru college would pay for trips to come back to visits. Than would periodically send him some money for things. He moved states I now have a kid and I went and visited him and his wife with my son. He spoiled my kid rotten I kept trying to pay. He looked at me and said you helped me so much when I didn’t have much I want to pay it forward. I have never been more proud of how amazing he has turned out.

This is me and my mentor. She never had kids. Didn't ever want them. Every mother figure in my life rejected me. She stepped in. She's held me and fought for me and helped me through my darkest times. She doesn't see herself as my mom because she's never seen herself as a mom (besides to her doggies), but she's mine. And I love her. And she loves me.

As a father to a young girl it breaks my heart when I see stuff like this. Every child deserves to know their parents not only love them but unconditionally their for them. I know so many of us feel in our day to day lives we don’t spend enough time with our kids to pass on these important lessons and moments with them than we would like.
