You've reached the end
I'm 41 and routinely get a spreadsheet emailed to me that has broken links to a file that was created when I was in 7th grade based on the date in the file name. 😂
Spreadsheets are like duck tape. It's never the best solution, but it is a solution.
Wendell, the contractor that walked away.
wendell who left in 2015 looked at the ticket in 2019 ...
I love how often you call put that basically all tech is built by some guy who doesnt work there any more and theyre the only one who ever understood whats happening
Just watched someone's desktop crash in real time today after trying to open a checklist sent to us by data management. The checklist has at least 20 tabs and the cells are individually color coded with a legend attached.
"IT'S IN THERE...we just can't find it". LOL! 🤣 The laughter is real .... and so are the tears.
I loled at "do not unplug Wendell" 😆
“Not on Wendell’s monitor” Chefs kiss
Wendell's computer running in a closet ... God, I had something like this for a while. Software worked on a former employee's computer but nowhere else. Spent way too much time testing and exploring, the vendor didn't want to help, so I finally just accepted that this one computer would have to be good enough and hoped for the best. That process is done now and the computer has been shut off, but I'll probably hang onto it for another 5 years just because... 🤷
Worked at a company where I had to manuslly start a ancient linus machine. It ran scripts and then shut down. Guy who set it up left years ago and nothing was documented.
When people complain about Teams and Google Sheets and the modern collaborative office tools, I think they forget it use to really be like this video. Things are *so* much better now.

I kid you not, I work for one of the top BPOs of India, they serve the biggest airline in the world at the time. I was in web support desk (like 5000 Other guys), it was 2010 but the booking software they used was built in 1990s and it can only be ran on Win98 or XP and only on a Square monitor LOL. all our resources are generated by three (really smart guys). that was used worldwide and every airline employee who used that software know these people by name, because the resources were their name.
I had to write a user guide to a spreadsheet.... it was the only format that could read the extracted data from 4 different databases that had to be reconciled every 2 weeks. 100,000s of rows... over 150 columns.... pivot tables so you could access particular accounts.....
the "We kept his laptop on in a closet" reminds me of the story ""We ran out of columns" - The Best Worst Codebase"
I'm here for the Wendell lore
I taught myself to write better VBA than that in a month, from scratch, while working as an automotive PQE. The macro needing unlocked cells almost made me literally recoil in horror. And the reason for using spreadsheets is most office workers know how to use a hacky spreadsheet, but can't be arsed to learn not to break a less hacky and broken but still broken dedicated solution.
The ghost of Wendell lives on.
It's so scary when you realize this is how our entire world is bandaids and hope
