Thay dident chose human life because if thay sold them ad somebody got it a casement and the airbag dident come out and thay died or got injured thay would spend millions in courth and readying people and wouldbgrt tons of backlash
But they didnt lose the 60 mil, wasnt it paid by the insurance?
It's not out of commission it's preservation, if only one of Theo's car owners would have sued then the amount they would have had to pay would have been bigger than dumping all the acrs

That opted to get the full insurance declaring by declaring a total loss, also getting tax benefits, the raw materials can be recycled from the crushed cars anyways, they almost doubled the profit on each car , and it's not by thinking about human safety.
