In just 5 months, Anthropic went from 2,500 merges per day to over 30,000 this September and they wrote a blog explaining just how that was possible with their new system, Scion Thank you Infinite Red for sponsoring! They reinvented SVN
git was never the problem, github is. change my mind
Here's the rough edge with git. People want to store everything in one repo.
As Theo keeps talking, I keep remembering SVN. This whole "on the server" bit is the key reminder.
Reinvent ALL wheels!
Am I the only one who probably fits 35 of Theo's PRs into a single PR?
Much closer to "making a better SVN", than "rebuilding GIT". SVN already had a lot more of the properties they were going for - like being lightweight client with a separate server, and having good monorepo support
Obsidian doesn’t need a rewrite, it’s good in current state
Another video "Watch me reading"
07:59 like, Linus Torvalds created git for the specific needs of the Linux kernel project
Anthropic won't rebuild Obsidian (it's just the best)
I wonder what kind of shit Anthropic is developing that needs 30000 PRs per day...
The fact that you can merge 50 pr's and then quickly test all of it before bed, means your PR count is maybe not a good measure of how much you achieved.
I enjoyed this more than the past 20 videos. I'm retired, so I have time to investigate things like how the borrow checker works and coding in assembly. Pointless, but fascinating.
0:47 Stop complaining about the website being bad while it's being parsed by thousands of bots for training LLM models so that you can make videos about slop machines. It used to be fine back in 2020-21.
But have they made their own Obsidian?

I can't believe Anthropic replaced Git with Obsidian
Really loved the dark mode, please keep it that way from now on for every website
48:00 I look forward to hearing about T3 git next week
