"It's not discontinued, we just stopped manufacturing them" -Jensen...probably
Corporations were buying 5090s by the pallet loads, paying to have the dies stripped, and putting them on to new custom PCBs with 96Gb of VRAM, and in some cases, even more. They were essentially building their own RTX Pro 6000s, for a fraction of the price, while having leftover parts. Nvidia got wind of this and is cutting out the possibility of that by simply using those dies in RTX Pro 6000s themselves. This will likely the very last generation where the top of the line gaming product uses the same die as the top of the line business product, to prevent this from ever happening again.
Imagine spending 16 grand on a GPU and it catches on fire from the poorly engineered power port.
I can't see Nvidia putting 24GB of DDR7 on a 5080 super, that's 24GB they can't use for data centers with much bigger profit margins.
"it's still shipping" isn't the same as it's still in production. They're lying and using wording to try and cover up their lie
If they are 5 times the price of the regular, retail price, then it is already unobtainable.
Jensen's Law. Same as Moore's Law, but with price instead of power.
Convenient that they discontinued the only card that can use DLSS 5 effectively
It wasn't overkill for VR flight sims with high end head sets. Could still have used more performance, though it was pretty adequate. But all that VRAM is really vital in VR flight sims.
It's crazy we live in a world where a 5080 for $1000 or a 5090 for $2000 doesn't look like an insanely high price anymore. I thought the 40 and 50 series were atrociously priced but if I had known how bad the prices were going to get maybe I would've picked up a used 5070 for like $500 when they were cheaper to upgrade from my launch 3080 10gb $760
It is discontinued... for the average people. IF you have $6-8,000, anyone can get it, lol
I happily sold my 5090 Astral for 5k before it's connector melted 😅
They lied with the MSRPs, they lied with "the 5070, 4090 performance for $550", they lied now. When do they get sued for this?
I do have a lightly used 5090. And today they are going for $7K used on eBay. It's hard not to sell. But once it's gone, I will never be able to afford it ever again.
I hope they also discontinue the stupid Nvidia 12VHPWR connector with it, let's go back to old reliable not self-melting 6+2, just imagine how aesthetic a gpu would look with 4 of those instead of the obnoxious and brittle firehose
9070XT makes so much more sense. It's like 800$
I love the Crysis disc box on the shelf in the background.
0:10 Good thing Jay didn't make 90% of his videos for the last 6 months about using the 5090..... Oh wait ...
As a uk supplier, I can confirm we have no more 5090's. No manufacturer is making them any more therefore we have concluded that they are not a current product line anymore. We have been told that although there are no more supply and no orders available for them, it is still a product from nvidia and so we can expect the 5090 might come back into production in the future
I purchased my 5080 from Microcenter at MSRP for $999 last December, so glad I did.
