A cosy autumn at home in Ireland π Slow living, autumn decorating, crackling fires, candlelight, vintage interiors and simple days spent making home feel a little cosier. In this autumn vlog, Iβm embracing a slower pace and what Iβm calling my analogue autumn. Iβve been reaching for old decorating books instead of scrolling for inspiration, revisiting the warmth and nostalgia of 80s and 90s films, pottering around my cottage-style home and enjoying those small seasonal rituals that make autumn feel special. Thereβs plenty of cosy home inspiration along the way, from vintage Laura Ashley interiors and autumn dΓ©cor to fireside evenings, candlelight and a little update on my spare room makeover and that troublesome day bed. More than anything, this video is about stepping away from some of the digital noise and enjoying home again. Not a perfectly curated version of slow living, just real life at a gentler pace. If youβre new here, Iβm Catherine and Dainty Diaries is all about creating a characterful home and garden through DIY, cottage interiors, thrifting and antiques, seasonal decorating and cottage gardening here in Ireland. For hydrangaes, I take a hammer and break the bottom of the stem to break up the woody stem and mix glycerin in with your water. The flower head will soak it up and the stay soft as though they are fresh flowers. Mine have lasted for years and years. Here in the states, i buy the glycerin at a pharmacy. Even walmart carries it in a bottle.
Youβre such a great cleaner. I used to clean like that too. Age puts a stop to lots of things. Enjoy your youth. You do great work.
When I was a child I had a night stand with a skirt and a glass top. I used to collect flowers and leaves, press them and arrange them under the glass. They could be swapped out on a seasonal basis. Loved doing it, thank you for bringing back the memory.
Shout-out to Flat Pack Man... he's got the patience of a saint! Your home is giving all the cosy vibes π
You have to pick hydranges at the right time, when the flowers feel papery, strip off all the leaves and put them in an inch of water give them plenty of space, and leave them. Keep them out of the sunlight. Probably takes about 4 weeks to dry. I used to volunteer at a dried flower garden and that''s how we dried them..
I do not care for AI either. Its everywhere
You have definitely had some snafus in the last year but what I like is that you show us real life during renovationsβ¦.we all have snafus and itβs nice to know other have them too. So many utubers just show us the perfect side of things which is not real life. But I have to say out of everything in the last year of watching youβ¦that bed made me crazyπ€ͺ
Ah the Day Bed looks fabulous love the Gingham . Thereβs nothing like a sleeping Cat πββ¬π€π€
For drying flowers, they have to be just picked and hung upside down so they set up. And air circulation. That is why drying houses existed for different things. If you pop your bedding in the dryer for a bit, it will take out wrinkles so it looks nice and fresh.
It makes a difference when you cut them off the plant . I dry mine by waiting until they start to look a bit drier , cut them and put them in a vase with a little water at the bottom and then just leave them and they should dry .
You know, when I saw the title of this episode, it made me smile because Iβve just bought a completely analogue wind up radio, which I love, and the thought of literally going analogue on everything makes me feel so nostalgic, and MUCH calmer!
Seriously Catherine, I absolutely love your channel! Thank you for sharing your life, thoughts, adventures and kitties with us! Your videos bring a calm to a chaotic world. Iβve just been thinking about taking my life back in time a bit with less electronics, notifications and AI. When I heard you taking about it, my brain was shouting YES! EXACTLY! you expressed it so well! β€β€β€β€β€

Return to Me is one of my new favourites. Its from 2000 and features the most wholesome partnership - drama, yes, but not drama where they mistreat each other like you see so much nowadays. Cheesy but lovely.
